Can't you see you are making it stronger?

Newsletter #28

Greetings,

Today has been a whirlwind. I spent 4 glorious hours at the DMV trying to get all of my vehicle and identification requirements up to snuff.

I learned a few things:

I 100% have test anxiety. Taking that written test I felt my hands clam up and I felt my chest tighten live. Don’t worry I passed.

There is no good version of the DMV, it is stressful, it just is, but you gotta get it done.

The most important thing I learned, the more you put something off, the more power it has over you. I have been stressing about my car registration for months, and with every passing day the big hairy ogre grew and grew.

Today, with the gentle shove from Casey, I started the process. We got it done. The most exciting piece of earned wisdom… it wasn’t nearly as bad as I thought it would be.

A lot of the suffering was not from the action itself, it was from the flinching anticipation.

The Hero’s Journal

This week is going to be short. Nick is a wise man. He repeats a sentiment whenever moments in the business get overwhelming: Using our product will save our business.

There are three things The Hero’s Journal does that help overcome overwhelm:

  • Name the obstacle, putting a name to what you are worried about gives you the chance to take back the power against it.

  • Reminds you of the good, daily you are reminded to write out your gratitudes and you allies, it is a daily reminder that good will prevail.

  • Eat the frog, we have waxed eloquently about this ad nauseam over the years… if you had to eat two frogs… eat the biggest first. - Mark Twain

When we ignore our obstacles we make them more powerful than they ever could be on their own. Starting today, doing the small things allows you to chip away at the monster. You may not conquer it, but you will start to see the bigger picture come together as you make progress.

Atypical

It’s playoff time! Not only does this make for the best content, it is also a chance to put together all of the lessons and workouts and make it count. GLHF.

Reading

Okay, Okay. Hear me out. Dungeon Crawler Carl is incredible. I know I have been talking about it a lot. There are moments that are a little crass, but the audio book is an experience and once you start it's hard to put it down.

Coffee

I have news, a few weeks ago, I talked about changing my ratios. It has tremendously changed my espresso for the better. It was a small tweak, but I find it making a substantive difference. Goes to show, sometimes small tweaks can give you outsized returns.

Conclusion

This week is a shorty-mcgee. It’s probably a mixture of the brain melt the DMV offers, and with other big news brewing.

I have a lot of change coming, a lot of moments that will feel bigger than they are.

The only option I have?

Take them head on and don’t let them be bigger than they are.
