Follow your Path like Thunder

Newsletter #63

Hi,

I have been thinking about a quote that I cannot find out where it came from. I am sure that someone said it, but cannot find out who that who is.

The quote is, “Pick your path and follow it like thunder.”

So if you know who said it let me know.

Today is going to be a short one, but I am going to give you two tidbits that run off this quote.

The first is what I would consider to be pretty obvious: picking a path is choosing a priority, not following it like thunder is making something else a priority.

This is where the power of intention comes in. Rest is not doing nothing, rest is the recognition of the steps you need to take to continually pursue your path.

The thunder part of the quote definitely makes it feel like reckless abandon, but that is not what I see. I see the idea that you need to follow it with force. The type of force that reverberates through your bones.

That type of force is exhausting, rest offers you the opportunity to strike again… with the same force.

What I am referring to about not following a path like thunder is second guessing your steps. Allow yourself to make mistakes, don’t allow yourself to question your actions to the point of passivity.

When you choose to wait for the perfect time to pursue you are prioritizing being right, not the path. Just something to consider.

The other tidbit that I pull from this quote is that being forceful in the approach of your path isn’t telling you to ignore everything that comes along the way.

One of the issues that I have run into in my life is that I look for paths that are all encompassing. I look for an opportunity to only care about one thing. The issue is that nothing that is worth pursuing is going to be that unilateral.

There will be tangential lessons and moments that are worth being paid attention to. Whenever we hear about monk mode, or going into the cave, or whatever “lock-in-ism” you hear, we think about cutting out all of the other things that aren’t our “thing.”

That can offer great results for some time, but what happens is you look up and your life is unrecognizable. In some ways, for the better, and some ways for the worst.

That is the trade of ignoring the path in the search of the prize.

Keep your straight, but enjoy the periphery on the way.

Hopefully this offers you what it offers me :)

Bye,
Kyle
